The upcoming remake of 1982’s Poltergeist
boasts many callbacks to the original. Even doe-eyed child actress
Kennedi Clements, though brunette, looks a lot like her late
predecessor, Heather O'Rourke, who played Carol Anne Freeling in the
classic horror film. Clements even has the same haircut.

Clements
isn’t playing the exact same character in the reboot, however; hers is
named Madison Bowen. But as the youngest child in the Bowen family, with
one older brother, the essential plot remains intact.
She’s
seen here in a reimagining of the original film’s most iconic scene:
Carol Anne transfixed by a static-filled television screen, connecting
with the evil spirits lying in wait on the other side. While Carol Anne
memorably announced, “They’re here,” little Madison says in a similarly
detached tone, “They’re coming.”
See O'Rourke deliver her famous line in the original Poltergeist trailer (at the 1:42-mark) to compare:
We’ll see just how closely “they” mirror their '80s equivalents when Poltergeist comes out May 22.
