Poltergeist, the
new remake of the 1982 horror film (in theaters Friday), plays on our
primal fears of ghosts, demons, and bad real estate deals. But what
scares Poltergeist stars Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt? In
the video above, the actors and director Gil Kenan tell Yahoo Movies
about their most personal phobias.
DeWitt,
who plays the mother in the film, gets freaked out by food —
specifically, celery in tuna fish, undercooked meat, and things that
have been in the refrigerator too long. Rockwell, who plays DeWitt’s
husband, is afraid of getting wet. And Kenan, who made his directorial
debut with the animated fright fest Monster House, lives in fear
of bees. “I tell people I’m allergic to them so they don’t look at me
strangely when I scream and run away from the table, but really I’m
afraid of them,” Kenan tells us. (He doesn’t mention how he copes with
his other, more unusual fear: human hands.) Watch the video to learn
more about DeWitt and Rockwell’s acting-related fears, and to hear them
ponder the eternal question raised by Poltergeist: Why are clowns so freakin’ scary?
